Golden State Warriors star point guard Stephen Curry has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Hornets due to the ankle injury he suffered on Monday.

Curry injured the right ankle late in the 125-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Postgame X-rays were negative and results of an MRI exam are expected back on Tuesday.

The timing of the injury means Curry won't play in the club's lone visit to Charlotte -- the city Curry grew up in and located not far from where he was a college star at Davidson.

Curry left the arena on crutches after Monday's game. He also was mad at himself about the play in which he got injured as he got tangled up with New Orleans guard E'Twaun Moore.

"It was a dumb play because I tried to go for a steal," Curry said after Monday's contest. "And then, obviously, it was just a bang-bang (play). I got caught on E'Twaun's shoe as I went by him and couldn't catch myself.

"So obviously it hurt, but wanted to kind of get back here, get ice on it and get the rehab process started as soon as possible."

Curry scored 31 points against New Orleans and made five 3-pointers to raise his career total to 2,000. He is the eighth player in NBA history to reach that milestone.
